1. Q: Who can learn to fly?

A: Any one with average intellegence and good physical abilities and health can learn to fly.

A: Yes, in most countrys you must pass a medical exam prior to learning to fly, and have regular medicals every year -- we don't want you having a heart attack at 5000 ft! You also need to have good eye sight, but glasses are allowed.

A: Obviously you need access to a real airplane to learn to fly, but there is a great deal of studing one must do as well as the practical flying. This web site will help you get thru the Ground School requirements of the Private Pilots Licence.

A: No more then crossing the street in any busy city! You're more likely to be in a car accident on the way to the airport, then you are to be in a plane crash. I live in a small town, and I've been re-ended 3 times in one year --while sitting in my parked car! I've never been re-ended while flying!

A: That varies from person to person, and depends on the requirements in your country. Generally you will need 45 to 60 hours of Ground School instruction, and 40 to 60 hours of flying time to meet the minimum requirements, and be ready to pass the flight test!

A: Yes. There are two exams. The first is a pre-solo exam, in Canada called the PSTAR, which must be past with a minimum of 90% before you're allowed to fly solo (without an Instructor on board). Depending on the regualtions in your country, you must all pass the Pilot's exam with a minimum of 60% to 80% an all sections of the exam.

A: The exam includes all aspects of the required knowledge to be a safe pilot, usually divided into 4 sections: Air Law; Meterology; Navigation; and General Knowledge, which includes Therory of Flight, Aero Engines, Pilot decision making, Radio theory, and Airmanship.

A: Most local airports will have some type of flying school attached to them, unless you're in a really remote are. For those looking for a carear in Aviation, there are also colleges that offer 1-3 year programs.
